These 5-minute souvlaki wraps are super speedy when the meat is cooked in a sandwich press. Great for busy weeknight meals when time is short.
Looking for a quick and easy meal that’s tasty, satisfying, and can be on the table in about five minutes?
These 5-minute souvlaki wraps are by far my favourite quick meal. And the reason it’s so quick? I cook the meat in the sandwich press.
Double the heat, half the cooking time.
Is this a traditional Greek souvlaki, full of complex flavours?
No.
But what it lacks in complexity, it makes up for in speed.
Quick-cook lamb steaks (see variations below), salad, and a premade tzatziki dip come together in the perfect wrap for a speedy weeknight meal.
Ingredients
souvlaki bread or tortillas
lamb steaks (see variations)
premade tzatziki dip
lettuce
tomato
cucumber
Totally optional additions:
red onion
feta
mint
How to Make a Souvlaki Wrap in Five Minutes
Whether you’re cooking for one or cooking for four, here’s how to make these souvlaki wraps in minutes.
Step 1. Heat the sandwich press for a few seconds (we have this sandwich press, it’s nothing fancy, but we cook with it every day
Step 2. Heat each piece of bread for around 10-20 seconds until softened and starting to brown. You may need to move it around if it’s bigger than the press.
Don’t leave it too long, otherwise it will go hard and crack when you’re trying to fold your souvlaki.
Cover with a tea towel to keep warm.
Step 3. Season your lamb steaks with salt and pepper (see below for variations). Cook in the lamb steaks for 2-5 minutes, depending on how cooked you like your lamb (I like mine medium rare). Be careful not to cook too long-they can get dry and tough pretty quickly.
Remove to a board and rest for a minute or so.
Step 4. While the lamb is cooking and resting, slice some tomato, cut up some cucumber, and shred some lettuce.
Step 5. Slice the lamb against the grain, and serve everything as is on a board along with the tzatziki for each person to make their own wrap.

Questions You May Have Before Trying It
Whenever I mention this dish to friends, I get a few questions.
How many people does this recipe serve?
This dish is easily scalable. I’ve cooked it for one person, and I’ve cooked it for four, which is how many lamb steaks fit in our sandwich press.
I have a friend who said they couldn’t make it because she cooks for 7, but even if you have to cook this in a couple of batches, it’s still quick – 10 minutes instead of five.
Do you have to use lamb?
You can substitute the lamb steaks with beef minute steaks, chicken (breast or thigh), premade kebabs, or even meatballs. All of which can be cooked in half the time in a regular sandwich press.
Do you have to have a sandwich press to make these souvlaki wraps?
No, it will just take longer to cook in a pan or under the grill/broiler.
5-Minute Souvlaki Wraps – Variations
I love meals that are variable, so I can use up what I have on hand.
Feta is a lovely addition to this dish. So is avocado, because, avo is good in everything.
I like adding mint if I have it, which is not very often. Many people also add red onion, which is not my thing, but if it’s yours, that’s another possible addition.
Marinating the meat
If you have the time, or you’ve planned ahead, you can marinate the meat for extra flavour.
Mix some lemon juice (how much? a squeeze or two), some dried oregano, salt and pepper, and a touch of olive oil, give it a mix. Then let the steaks sit in the marinade in the fridge until you’re ready to cook them – up to three days, depending on the use-by date.

Notes
For extra flavour, you can marinate your steaks beforehand in some lemon juice, dried oregano, salt and pepper, and a tiny touch of olive oil.
