  2. Thanks for the great website full of wonderful frugal ideas, Melissa.
Rising food costs here in Canada keep me trying to cook frugal dishes that are nutritious, but more importantly is that they taste great as there’s no point spending time, money and energy cooking frugal but boring food where the only one happy to eat them is the dog. I was introduced to lentils as a kid and really grew to like their taste. Legumes (but especially lentils-they take on the flavor of meats & veg they’re cooked with) are such a blessing when it comes cooking frugal meals. They make a great meatless meal or help stretch a little bit of meat into a wonderful tasty meal. So to anyone struggling with meals do make friends with lentils so your meals costs can easily be cut in half.
Melissa, your recipe ideas have given me lots of ideas. I’m finding cooking this way more challenging as I am pre-diabetic and really watching my carbs. So no stuffed big baked potatoes for me and watch the white pasta and white rice. Thankfully there are now many lo-carb options readily available now. Cauliflower, quinoa and various seeds have become great friends to me in this struggle.
One thing driving me crazy is how the price of the traditionally cheaper cuts of meat have risen way more than the more expensive cuts. Maybe it’s because food retailers see that people easily stretch a stewed meat to feed more people. Thankfully mince is still one of the more reasonable meat options.
    Anyhow, thanks again!

    1. Hi Ester, great to hear from you. These rising prices (and no cheap carbs) certainly make it hard! My hubby believes cheap meat became trendy thanks to TV cooking shows 😛.
